1962
Where it all started
Pragati was started by Mr. Paruchuri Hanumantha Rao in 1962 with an investment of Rs.6000/-. A genial man, Mr. Hanumantha Rao’s simple philosophy of “Is the customer happy?” continues to stand the company in good stead. His sons, Narendra and Mahendra, joined the business in 1978 and 1981 respectively, and started bringing in new technologies, which took the company on the path to becoming one of the largest print companies in India.
1979
Phototypesetting machine introduced.
The introduction of AM Varityper phototypesetting machine changed paradigm from hand-setting of lead type to computerized typesetting. It was the first such machine in South India – bringing a spurt of growth to the company.
1985
Purchase of first 4-colour printing machine
First 4 colour machine purchased from Miller, Germany, followed by the first fully computer controlled 5-colour machine in India (from Komori, Japan) in 1988. Started Pragati’s growth from local Hyderabad company to one serving a pan-India customer base – starting with advertising agencies from Bombay.
